We’re delighted to welcome you to the Upper Highway Property community.

The Begin Here space is your starting point. Before exploring the rest of the community, please take a few minutes to read the Community Guidelines. They explain how the community works and help us maintain a respectful, helpful and welcoming environment for everyone.

Once you have read the guidelines, feel free to explore the other spaces, join the conversations, ask questions and connect with people interested in property and related services and the general community across the wider Upper Highway area.

We’re glad you’re here and look forward to having you as part of the community.

Welcome to the Upper Highway Property community — a place where residents, property seekers, owners, landlords, tenants, estate agents, agencies and service providers can connect, ask questions and share useful local information.

These guidelines are intended to keep the community safe, trustworthy, helpful and welcoming. By participating, you agree to follow them.

1. Be respectful and neighbourly

Treat every member with courtesy, even when you disagree.

Personal attacks, bullying, harassment, intimidation, threats, hate speech and deliberately insulting or inflammatory behaviour are not permitted. Debate the issue without attacking the person.

2. Keep posts relevant

Content should be reasonably connected to:

  • Property for sale or rent
  • Buying, selling, renting or managing property
  • Estate agencies and property professionals
  • Home maintenance, renovations and related services
  • Local developments, infrastructure and neighbourhood matters
  • Life in Hillcrest, Kloof, Gillitts, Assagay, Waterfall, Shongweni and the surrounding Upper Highway area

Unrelated, repetitive or disruptive content may be removed.

3. Be honest and accurate

Do not deliberately publish false, misleading or deceptive information.

Property descriptions, prices, availability, qualifications, services and business details should be accurate and kept up to date. Clearly distinguish between confirmed facts, personal opinions and unverified reports.

Correct mistakes promptly when they are brought to your attention.
NOTE: Properties for sale and rent may be posted here temporarily. Once the main site goes live in September 2026, property listing should be posted there. However, this space may still be used to ask questions and discuss properties in general.

4. No scams, spam or deceptive promotion

The following are prohibited:

  • Fraudulent or non-existent property listings
  • Advance-fee scams and suspicious payment requests
  • Pyramid schemes, chain messages and get-rich-quick offers
  • Repeated unsolicited advertising
  • Misleading links, impersonation and fake accounts
  • Artificial reviews, testimonials or recommendations
  • Malware, phishing links or attempts to collect login details

Never ask another member to share a password, one-time PIN or banking login information.

5. Commercial members must be transparent

Estate agents, agencies, landlords, developers, contractors and service providers are welcome to participate, but they must identify their commercial interest when recommending their own property, business or service.

Promotional posts should be useful, accurate and placed in the appropriate space. Community discussions should not be overwhelmed by repeated sales messages.

Paid relationships, commissions, referral fees and sponsored recommendations should be disclosed where relevant.

6. Protect privacy and personal information

Do not publish another person’s private information without permission. This includes:

  • Home addresses not already published as part of an authorised listing
  • Private telephone numbers or email addresses
  • Identity numbers, banking information or legal documents
  • Private correspondence or screenshots
  • Vehicle registration details
  • Photographs of people taken in private settings
  • Security arrangements, alarm codes or access instructions

Do not use information obtained through the community to harass, threaten or repeatedly contact another member.

7. Respect property and personal safety

Do not encourage trespassing, unlawful entry, vandalism or interference with another person’s property.

Be cautious when arranging property viewings, meetings or transactions. Verify the identity and authority of the person offering a property or service, and meet in a safe setting where appropriate.

Upper Highway Property does not guarantee the identity, qualifications, conduct or reliability of individual community members.

8. No discriminatory property practices

Posts and listings must not unlawfully discriminate against people based on race, colour, ethnicity, nationality, sex, pregnancy, marital status, disability, religion, age or any other status protected by South African law.

Property requirements should describe the property or legitimate tenancy conditions—not exclude or demean groups of people.

9. Share fair and responsible reviews

Members may share genuine experiences with agencies, agents, landlords, tenants or service providers, provided the comments are truthful, relevant and expressed responsibly.

Do not post:

  • Fabricated allegations
  • Personal vendettas
  • Threats or abusive accusations
  • Private information
  • Claims presented as fact without a reasonable basis

Where possible, describe what happened, when it happened and what steps were taken to resolve the matter.

10. Respect copyright and ownership

Only upload photographs, videos, documents, advertisements and written material that you own or have permission to use.

Do not copy another agency’s listing, photographs, branding or description without authorisation. Credit the original source when sharing material created by someone else.

11. Keep content appropriate

Pornographic, graphically violent, illegal or deliberately offensive content is not permitted.

Do not use the community to promote unlawful goods, unlawful services or activities that could endanger other members.

12. Avoid duplicate and misleading listings

Post each property in the appropriate section and avoid creating unnecessary duplicates.

Listings should clearly state whether the person posting is:

  • The owner
  • A landlord
  • An authorised agent
  • An agency representative
  • Another authorised party

Remove or update a listing when the property is no longer available.

13. Do not impersonate others

Use an authentic identity or legitimate business identity. Do not pretend to represent another person, agency, company, municipality or public organisation.

Business names and logos may only be used by authorised representatives.

14. Resolve disagreements constructively

Where possible, address misunderstandings calmly and privately before escalating them publicly.

Do not organise harassment, encourage members to target someone or repeatedly revive a dispute after moderators have addressed it.

15. Report problems to the moderators

Use the available reporting tools when you encounter suspicious, abusive or inappropriate content.

Do not start a public confrontation merely to expose another member. Reporting the content allows moderators to review the matter fairly and helps prevent unnecessary conflict.

Moderation and enforcement

Upper Highway Property may edit, restrict, move or remove content that violates these guidelines or undermines the purpose of the community.

Depending on the seriousness or frequency of the conduct, moderators may:

  1. Provide guidance or a warning
  2. Remove or restrict content
  3. Temporarily limit an account
  4. Suspend or permanently remove an account
  5. Refer suspected unlawful activity to the relevant authorities

Serious misconduct may result in immediate removal without a prior warning.

Moderation decisions are made to protect the community as a whole. These guidelines may be updated as the community develops.

Important reminder
